Transformation Leadership Coordinator

The Georgia Department of Education’s Chief Turnaround Office supports 19 schools that are identified in the state’s bottom 5%. As a Transformation Leadership Coordinator, I am responsible for support schools and districts execute 90-day action plans and facilitating face-to-face and virtual professional development to principals.

Assistant Principal
Bear Creek Middle School (Fulton County Schools)                                                                               2015-2018

Bear Creek is a comprehensive, Title I middle school (grades 6-8) with 1,200 students and 100+ staff members. The school was a member of the district’s 1st Personalized Learning cohort with a 1:1 device initiative and is recognized as one of the country’s few Microsoft Showcase Schools. The school recently increased 9 points on the state performance index.

As an Assistant Principal, I am responsible for building the capacity of instructional staff members, developing professional development series, teacher and staff evaluation, managing all technology integration efforts, and overseeing school functions and operations. My instructional leadership has led to the distinction as the district’s South Learning Community (SLC) 2017-18 Assistant Principal of the Year (30 schools)

Instructional Leadership

  • Guided and restructured Professional Learning Communities founded on Data-Driven Instructional Practices and team collaboration
  • Supported and developed leadership capacity for 8th Grade Teachers and Science Department
  • Served as 2017 Summer School Principal which yielded 9% increase in state assessment pass rate.

  • Developed and organized largest school-led Microsoft Redefining Learning Conference in U.S. history over past 2 school years-1,600+ attendees and 150+ presenters
    • Organized presentations, vendors, funding, branding, and digital marketing
  • Created a professional development framework which yielded a national feature story from the U.S. Office of Educational Technology
  • Utilized and analyzed teacher evaluation data to differentiate professional development for over 80 teachers
  • Created and shared online platform to store and share professional development resources
  • Gathered and analyzed data to develop personalized learning professional development plan which later became adopted by multiple schools within the district.
  • Served as a district virtual coach to support incoming teachers implement effective instructional strategies

Instructional Technology

  • Led Professional Development Series that led to recognition as the only middle school in the state to have 100% of instructional staff certified as Microsoft Innovative Educators
  • Successfully launched paperless school initiative which garnered national recognition
  • Modeled and facilitated BEST practices for technology integration for district instructional technology team members from 30 schools while serving as regional team lead
  • Served on district Personalized Learning Steering Committee to support multiple departments and cabinet members in key decision making

Operational Leadership

  • Developed and organized 1:1 device deployment model that yielded a 94% school-wide deployment rate
  • Decreased out of school suspension rate by 25.4% from SY 2015-16 to 2016-17
  • Decreased student discipline recidivism rate by 10% by providing restorative practices interventions
  • Decreased number of discipline referrals by 47% by providing effective behavior management strategies

NCCE is a national training partner with Microsoft Education located in the Western United States. As a Professional Learning Specialist (PLS), I am contracted to consult and deliver training to school districts, colleges, and conferences around the country. My unique experience as a school administrator led to the creation of the Innovative School Leader Academy, which was featured at several conferences.

Langston Hughes is a comprehensive, Title I high school (grades 9-12) with 1,800 students and 150+ staff members. I served as the primary 9th grade administrator with a caseload of 600 students, 89% African-American, 73% economically disadvantaged.

  • Supported and developed leadership capacity for 9th Grade Teachers
  • Provided effective instructional support that led to 24% increase in 9th grade students qualifying for the honor roll
  • Developed and assisted in the implementation of Title I School Improvement Plans.
